Coaching

My coaching philosophy

For me, coaching means understanding yourself and others better, recognizing skills and interacting on an equal footing. The benchmark for this is the definition of goals and the willingness to change. Self-reflection and awareness are encouraged.

A coach is neither a consultant nor a teacher, advisor or problem solver, but an equal counterpart who supports clients in overcoming challenges and difficult questions. The term coaching is derived from the word "coach". Coach, stands for driver. A coachman used to be a person who brought passengers and horses safely to their destinations.

Process

An important basic assumption in coaching is that every client is an expert on the issue on which the coaching is based. In other words: As a client, you alone have the expertise in relation to your question(s), which forms the starting point of the coaching. Nobody but you knows what is good for you and what is not. But you alone already have the answers - even if at this point unknowingly - that lie dormant deep within you. As a coach, it is my job to bring these to light through in-depth questions.

The coaching enables clients to get out of the hamster wheel of a problem through neutral support and to find their way to a desired change. In the coaching process, unconscious values, potentials and needs are explored and conscious goals and resources (e.g. own abilities, skills, talents, etc.) are derived from them. The coaching process accompanies clients on a self-determined journey of discovery in order to come into contact with unconscious aspects of a topic and to be able to integrate them into consciously finding their bespoke solution.

As a coach, questions are fundamental to me. On the one hand for exploring and clarifying the topic, on the other hand for stimulation and inspiration. This means that I listen to you attentively & actively, but I will also ask you specific questions and, depending on the situation, also fall back on tried and tested coaching procedures and methods.

During our coaching sessions, thought processes are set in motion that can keep you as a client busy and inspiring for days or even weeks. Whether and how these impulses develop, you as the client decide alone and at your own pace.

Expenditure of time

A coaching process usually consists of 2 to 5 sessions. The aim is always to achieve a jointly defined goal or, in the case of larger (vision) goal, to achieve a milestone in the respective meeting.

Depending on the initial situation and topic, a coaching session lasts between a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 90 minutes. This is agreed with the client in advance.

Online coaching or outdoor coaching

Ideally, you should sit across from each other during coaching and look into the eyes, perceiving the voice, facial expressions and gestures of the other. Nowadays, however, it is not possible for every client to accomplish this due to business or private travel, pandemics or when the client feels more comfortable in their own four walls. In order to deal with such situations, it is possible to use conference tools (such as Skype or Zoom) to create a protected space for exchange. However, our first meeting should take place live (if possible) so that we can develop a better feeling for the other person.

Another alternative is outdoor coaching. Whether you are taking a walk by the lake or in the forest, in addition to the fresh air and movement, nature offers countless possibilities for visualization. Each step leads you closer to the desired solution.
